While enjoying a rare night off from Phil Lesh & Friends recent run of shows at New Yorks Nokia Theater, keyboardist Steve Molitz made a one-off appearance with the Willie Waldman Project at New Yorks Jazz Standard. In addition to its creative namesake on trumpet, this version of the Willie Waldman Project featured Molitz on keyboards, Gent Treadlys Greg Koerner on bass and moe.s Vinnie Amico on drums. The ensemble ran through a mix of material in the style of Waldmans Banyan band with Stephen Perkins, and, after riffing about the east coast and west coasts, finished the night with a spontaneous version of Tupac Shakur’s ‘California Love.’ Molitz will perform with Phil Lesh & Friends at New Yorks Nokia Theater once again this evening.
