A number of artists we cover here at the site received nominations for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Guitarist Will Bernard is up for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, where his Party Hats disc will compete with four other recordings, including Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters. Phil Lesh & Friends alum is in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category along with Joan Armatrading, Doyle Bramhall, JJ Cale & Eric Clapton and Bettye LaVette. The Best Reggae Album category is a star-studded affair, with recordings by Burning Spear, Stephen Marley, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sly & Robbie And The Taxi Gang and Toots & The Maytals all vying for awards. The eclectic Best Pop Instrumental Performance category includes tracks from Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Beastie Boys, Dave Koz, Joni Mitchell and Spyro Gyra. Levon Helm’s Dirt Farmer (Best Traditional Folk Album) and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’s ‘Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)’ (Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals) also are among the nominees for the show which will take place on February 10.
