As is tradition, Galactic celebrated New Years Eve at New Orleans famed Tipitina’s Uptown and, fittingly, the groups homecoming performance mixed the old with the new. Shortly before midnight, former Jurassic 5 member Chali 2na, one of the many MCs who appears on the groups new hip-hop album From the Corner to the Block, took the stage for a New Years countdown that segued into the traditional Auld Lang Syne. Galactic and Chali 2na were then joined onstage by Laidlaw and Mr. Lif for a cover of Led Zeppelins Immigrant Song that opened short set of hip-hop flavored songs.

Nodding to their past, the members of Galactic later brought out former singer Houseman at the start of the second set to deliver a strong version of Something’s Wrong with This Picture, before the group offered instrumental versions of Black Eyed Pea and Garbage Truck. Chali 2na, Laidlaw and Mr. Lif also each returned at various points throughout the groups second set, while Houseman came out for an encore appearance during Century City. The night ended up a take on Step Your Game Up that featured the vocal styles of both Chali 2na and Laidlaw. Galactic will appear on Jam Cruise this weekend.
