Bonerama will play a benefit show for Al ‘Carnival Time’ Johnson and Sweet Home New Orleans with indie-rockers OK Go at New Orleans Tipitina’s this evening. The strange bedfellows recently recorded the collaborative EP You’re Not Alone, which will also aid the New Orleans-icon (who lost everything when Katrina destroyed his home in 2005). The OK Go spent the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina recording with Bonerama in New Orleans the Upper 9th Ward of New Orleans and Johnson himself joins in on a cover of Bob Dylan’s I Shall Be Released. The EP will hit stores on February 5, a few days after Bonerama and OK Go appear together at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club on February 2.

In other Bonerama news, last night the groups Craig Klein, Matt Perrine, Eric Bolivar and Bert Cotton participated in a benefit concert at New Orleans Parish Room. The gig also drew in members of My Morning Jacket, The Mekons, The Wrens, Mendoza Line and Freakwater and money raised will benefit musicians displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
