Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss and Jack Straw’s Barry Brown are two founders of the USTORM Foundation, a Chicago-based charity that aims to assist young people. On Friday night, Brown and Jack Straw performed a USTORM benefit at the Kinetic Playground. Bayliss, who had guested with moe. earlier in the night when that group performed at the Riviera Theater, brought moe. over to the benefit. Then following Jack Straw’s first set, Brown took the stage to announce the formation of the ‘newest, greatest band in the world…Blaxl Rose.’ At this point Bayiss took the stage along with moe.‘s Chuck Garvey, Rob Derhak, Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico as well as Cornmeal’s Allie Kral. The group then delivered a version of ‘Lively Up Yourself,’ as well as ‘In The Street’ (the theme song to That 70’s Show). Schnier then remained on stage as Jack Straw returned and appeared with the band for ‘Big Boss Man’ and ‘China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider.’
