On Saturday Dark Star Orchestra headlined Atlantas Variety Playhouse. During their performance, the group invited out legendary soul keyboardist, and Atlanta-transplant, Ike Stubblefield, who has worked with such luminaries as Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye, Ike & Tina Turner, Curtis Mayfield, Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart, for versions of Slim Harpos Im a King Bee and Little Miltons Thats What Love Will Make You Do. The Grateful Dead routinely covered Im a King Bee during the Pigpen-era, revisiting the number once in both 1993 and 1994 with Bob Weir on lead vocals, while the Jerry Garcia Band performed Thats What Love Will Make You Do over the years. Dark Star Orchestras tour continues tonight at Jacksonville, FLs Freebird Live, before concluding at Langerado on March 6.
