Earlier this month, the Benevento/Russo Duo and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals hit the road for a co-headlining tour. The run kicked off March 5 with an appearance at Richmond, VAs Toad’s Place, making stops in Asheville, NC and Jacksonville, FL, before stopping for a few days at Langerado. From there, the two groups routed through Louisville, KY (3/11), Madison, WI (3/12), Minneapolis, MN (3/13), Milwaukee, WI (3/14) and Chicago (3/15), before closing things out last night in Pittsburgh, PA. It appears that the two groups bonded over the course of the run as well and, after making it to the Midwest, The Duo began inviting out Nocturnals guitarist Scott Tournet for Powder each night. Joe Russo and Marco Benevento also appeared with the Nocturnals on a number of occasions, most frequently on covers of Aerosmiths Sweet Emotion and Led Zeppelins Your Time Is Gonna Come. In addition, from Louisville through Pittsburgh, Chris Harford opened the evenings festivities with a unique version of his Band of Changes, featuring Benevento on keyboards, Tournet on guitar, Duo road manager Bob Haight on drums and Russo on guitar. Since The Duos tour schedule prevented him from performing with his other band American Babies at SXSW, Sam Champion/RANAs Ryan Thornton subbed for the busy drummer throughout the music industry conference.
Potter will appear at Hattiesburg, MSs So. Mississippi Arts Festival on March 29, while Benevneto and Russo will participate in a benefit for producer Scotty Hard at New Yorks Highline Ballroom this Wednesday.
