While its artists hail from a number of different geographic regions, few independent labels work as hard as HYENA Records to further the jazz, funk and jam styles so essential to the New Orleans sound. So it makes sense that a number of HYENA artists will band together for a Big Easy gig during JazzFest. On Sunday, May 4, the final evening of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, HYENA recordings artists Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, John Ellis & Double-Wide and Mike Dillon’s Go-Go Jungle and the trio of Marco Benevento, Reed Mathis and Matt Chamberlain will all appear at New Orleans The Blue Nile. Given the fraternal nature of the group involved, the night promises ample opportunity for collaboration. A handful of surprise guests are also expected.
