Last night at Martyrs in Chicago, the USTORM Foundation hosted its latest benefit show. The evening included music from Jack Straw, Lubraphonic and well as an extended set that drew in a variety of performers. Cornmeal took the stage for the initial portion of the concluding set, with Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins adding keys to a cover of ‘Bennie and the Jets.’ Cummins then backed Jen Hartswick, as she played trumpet and sang ‘At Last’ with Cornmeal’s Chris Ganji participating as well. Cummins’ UM bandmate Ryan Stasik then stepped up for a version of MMW’s ‘Bubblehouse’ that also featured Hartswick and the Lubraphonic horns. Lubraphonic later anchored the closing segment that included covers of ‘Sugaree’ and ‘People Get Ready.’ Brendan Bayliss, who co-founded USTORM along with Kevin Kostelecky, Mike LeMaistre and Jack Straw’s Barry Brown, attended and assisted with a raffle but did not perform, as he is recovering from recent hernia surgery (although during said raffle he reportedly revealed his scar to those in attendance). United So Together Our Reach Multiplies is a non-profit organization aimed at raising funds to help needy children and young adults improve their lives by providing access to various music and art educational programs.
