My Morning Jackets Jim James played an intimate show at Londons St. James Chapel over the weekend to preview material off his groups forthcoming, but heavily leaked, album Evil Urges. Though billed as a Jim James show, MMJ guitarist Carl Broemel performed throughout the set, mostly on pedal steel guitar. The duo opened with a run through of Tonight I Want to Celebrate, before revealing new, unplugged versions of tracks like Sec Walkin, Look at You, I’m Amazed and Smokin From Shootin from the heavily produced Evil Urges. James and Broemel dotted their setlist with a handful of older tracks, including a rare reading of The Bar, At Dawns Bermuda Highway and a touching I Will Be There When You Die. Nodding to his surroundings, James also included a religious prayer in a take on Gideon, before his set climaxed with a wall of feedback leading out of Touch Me Im Going to Scream Part. 2.

My Morning Jacket will play a late-night set at Bonnaroo on June 13. For more on the group, please read our new site interview.
