Maceo Parker and Lettuce will perform at the first ticketed JVC Jazzfest show ever held in Brooklyn. The gig will take place at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple on June 18, featuring full sets by both funk outfits. Parker is touring behind his latest CD Roots & Grooves, which includes eight Ray Charles covers. Im a huge fan of that kind of more hard-edged James Brown-style funk, Lettuce saxophonist Sam Kininger says. James Brown originated that and I have side-project in Boston, this Cuban jazz project. We play about once a month. So everyone has this whole niche and style, but when we come together we really gel. Lettuce will also kick off a run of shows with Trombone Shorty on July 17 at Los Angeles The Key Club.
