On Friday, My Morning Jacket performed its most high-profile headlining show to date at New Yorks Radio City Music Hall. Unlike the groups late night set at Bonnaroo, which featured numerous covers and special guests ranging from Kirk Hammett to Jeff Coffin, the quintet focused exclusively on its own material, from older numbers like The Bear and an acoustic rendition of Bermuda Highway to all but three of the songs off of Evil Urges. The group played from 8:15 to almost 11:00 PM, taking a short, 5-minute break seventeen songs into its twenty-six song set. Highlights included a segue from Steam Engine into Smokin From Shootin and Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2 at the end of the groups first set, a tender reading of Golden and the rocking finale, One Big Holiday. At several points throughout the night, frontman Jim James also strapped on a wireless electric guitar and moved through Radio City to play for fans in the venues lower balcony. My Morning Jacket will spend most of the summer touring Europe and Canada, before opening an extended U.S. run at Nashville, TNs Riverfront Park on August 15.
