Mike Gordon will play a free show at Burlington, VTs Waterfront Park on August 15 as part of the 2008 Maritime Festival. In addition to Gordons performance, Senator Bernie Sanders will address the crowd. Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck will open the show. The bassist last shared the stage with Senator Sanders in 2006 as part of Honky Tonk the Vote, a sold-out concert for voter registration at South Burlington, VTs Higher Ground nightclub.

‘I am really excited to be working with Mike Gordon again on this very special event, Sanders says. Young voters in this country could well decide the fate of the next presidential election and the future direction of our country and the planet. This free concert in Burlington allows us to reach a lot of people while enjoying great music in one of the most beautiful parts of Vermont.
I was listening to Atlas Shrugged on the treadmill recently, Gordon told Jambands.com. Politically I am on the opposite spectrum—- Ive love Bernie Sanders and have arguments with my dad, who is a Republican, about Fox News—-but its fascinating [another book I have been reading] The Artist Ways is about spirituality, while Atlas Shrugged is about the mind and facts. But they are similar in that they both focus on joy and this childish sense of wonder. So the combination of these two books has really inspired me to face all these new directions.

Gordon previewed a number of tracks from his forthcoming album _The Green Sparrow _ on a short festival-heavy tour earlier this month. He will perform at Commerce City, COs Mule High Music Festival this Saturday, before hitting the road this August for a more extensive summer tour.
