Last night at the Independent in San Francisco, Big Light performed a pre-Outside Lands Rhapsody Rocks event. Over the course of the night, a number of guests took the stage with the group, including ALO’s Dan Lebowitz, who contributed pedal steel and guitar throughout the show. Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins (see our first story below for news on his recent triumph) sat in for ‘Sleepy Wheels’ and ‘Bonebreaker.’ Marco Benevento added keys to a Gillian Welch cover, ‘Wrecking Ball.’ Then Benevento and Big Light were joined by Joe Russo for ‘Panthers.’ Next up for Big Light is the Golden Gate Gramble at 12 Galaxies on Friday.

The Democratic National Convention will take place in Denver from August 22-30. A number of musical acts will perform for the delegates, press and party notables during the course of the convention. While the full roster of performers has not yet been announced, a number of acts familiar to our readers are said to be participating. My Morning Jacket and The Black Keys will be on hand for Day One of the convention. The event reportedly will later close out with a performance by the Allman Brothers band on the 30th, with additional artists to be named in the coming days.
