The 9th Annual Woodstock Film Festival will kick off on Wednesday, October 1 with a performance at the Bearsville Theater by Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck. Fleck also will be on hand for the screening of the feature-length documentary Throw Down Your Heart, which tracks Fleck’s recent travels to Africa to examine the origins of the banjo. This marks Fleck’s second time at the festival, as he also was on hand in 2004 for a performance with Edgar Meyer in support of the short film Obstinato: Making Music for Two, which won the best short documentary award at the fest (and which like Throw Down Your Heart was directed by Fleck’s brother, Sascha Paladino).
