Last night, Slip drummer Andrew Barr surprised many readers by performing
with Canadian indie-rockers Land of Talk at New York’s Mercury Lounge. The

recent Montreal transplant actually plays drums on Land of Talk’s most recent
studio album, Some Are Lakes, and will perform with the group
throughout its upcoming Canadian tour, which is scheduled to kick off this
Saturday at Quebec’s Envol & Macadam Festival. Barr will bow out of the
tour before it returns to the U.S. on October 8, however, in order to
perform with the Slip as part of Sonya Kitchell’s backing band.
In certain respects, Land of Talk is singer Liz Powell and an
ever-changing backing band. Powell is also a satellite member of Broken
Social Scene, a group Land of Talk will open for this fall. The Slip was
the inaugural New Groove of the Month when Jambands.com launched ten years

ago this month.
