Medeski, Martin & Wood will release the first volume in their The Radiolarian Series on September 30. As first reported by Jambands.com, earlier this year MMW switched up its recording approach, writing new tunes, fleshing them out on the road and then quickly recording those new songs for a series of season-specific releases. The group will support its first Radiolarian release during a West Coast tour scheduled to kick off November 12 at Seattles Moore Theater. The trio will then make stops in Vancouver, BC (11/13), Portland (11/14), Eugene, OR (11/15), Arcata (11/16), Petaluma (11/18), Santa Cruz, CA (11/19), San Francisco (11/20) and Los Angeles (11/21), before closing things out at Sparks, NVs Celebrity Showroom on November 22.

For those wondering, MMW has defined Radiolarians as amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons, typically with a central capsule dividing the cell into inner and outer portions, called endoplasm and ectoplasm. These Unicellular Planktonic Marine Organisms grow their intricately beautiful patterned skeleton around their soft core in defiance of normal biological process, similarly to Medeski Martin and Woods latest creative cycle.
MMW will close a short South American tour at Buenos Airess Teatro Gran Rex tomorrow. The group will also play a benefit for the Black Mesa Trust at Bearsville, NYs Bearsville Theatre on September 28.
