Built to Spill recently returned to the road, sharing dates with fellow

experimental alt-rock groups Dinosaur Jr. and the Meat Puppets. Like the
band’s show at Monticello, NY’s All Tomorrow’s Parties event, Built to
Spill’s current set consists of a complete working of the group’s 1997
album Perfect from Now On, as well as its anthem ‘Goin’ Against
Your Mind.’ Each night the group has also changed up its encores and, on
occasion, invited some special guests to the stage. On Saturday, Built to
Spill performed at Philadelphia’s Trocadero theater and invited out the
members of the Meat Puppets and their friend Dean Ween for a show-closing
version of ‘Car,’ a track off 1994’s There’s Nothing Wrong with Love.
Then, last night at New York’s Terminal 5, Built to Spill invited out Ween
bassist Dave Dreiwitz for a jam leading out of the elongated ‘Virginia
Reel Around the Fountain.’ The improvisational segment also found the Meat
Puppets’ Curt Kirkwood moving behind the drum kit, while Cris Kirkwood
stepped in on guitar and later bass. Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr. and the
Meat Puppets will headline Terminal 5 once again this evening.
