U-Melt celebrated Halloween in Syracuse by paying tribute to the Cameron Crowe film Almost Famous. Crowe won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for the movie which draws on his days as a teenage rock journalist. The fictional band Stillwater in Almost Famous, blends Crowe’s experiences with Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers Band (among others). At the Westcott Theater, U-Melt dressed up as Stillwater and opened its first set with ‘Fever Dog,’ one of Stillwater’s signature songs(written by Crowe’s wife Nancy Wilson). U-Melt went on to deliver other songs that appear in the film, including The Who’s ‘Sparks,’ Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘America’ and Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer.’ The group then closed out the set with a run from Led Zeppelin’s ‘Misty Mountain Hop’ into Steely Dan’s ‘Reelin In The Years.’ The band’s second set focused on its original material.
U-Melt next appears on Thursday in Manchester, CT at The Main Pub.
