Though many of the musicians we cover regularly on the site stepped up to support Barack Obama throughout his campaign, few artists have secured as deep a connection with the President-elect as Wilco. The Chicago-bred band first befriended Obama when the Junior Senator from Illinois introduced Wilco at Farm Aid in 2005 and, since that time, the members of Wilco have played numbers benefits for the 44th U.S. President. Frontman Jeff Tweedy even championed the then presidential-hopeful on _ The Colbert Report_ last. We asked [Obama] if we could play his inauguration in 2005, Tweedy said with a smile. And his response was only if Hillary invites us.

Jokes aside, many believe Wilco is an obvious choice to play one Obamas many official inauguration parties this January (several Jambands.com/Relix staffers also point to Bruce Springsteen, The National, The Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, will.i.am and Billy Joel as likely candidates). Wilco will perform with Neil Young and Everest at Halifax, Nss Metro Centre on November 29. Please click here to see the video clip of the band onstage with Obama at a recent benefit.
