Last night, Gov’t Mule brought its Kinder Revolution Fall Tour out of the Northeast to Michigan’s Royal Oak Music Theatre. At the close of the first set, as the group has done during most every show as of late, Gov’t Mule brought out Back Door Slam’s Davy Knowles and the guitarist contributed to ‘Almost Cut My Hair.’ Later, at the close of the night, the Mule welcomed celebrated guitarist and area resident, Jim McCarty for a two song encore. McCarty, a veteran of Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels, the Buddy Miles Express and The Rockets also has backed Jimi Hendrix and Bob Seger. His guest slot started out with Gov’t Mule’s debut cover of Sonny Boy Williamson’s ‘Take Your Hand Out Of My Pocket’ (a song popularized by Van Morrison). Then McCarty’s band mate both in the Detroit Wheels and the Rockets, drummer John (‘Bee’) Badanjek (who over the years also has performed with Alice Cooper, Edgar Winter and Seger), joined in for a cover of ‘Let It Rock.’
Tonight, Gov’t Mule travels to Hammond, IN for a show at the Horseshoe Casino.
