The latest studio recording from jazz pianist McCoy Tyner is titled Guitars. This disc pairs him with such players as John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Derek Trucks and Marc Ribot along with banjoist Bela Fleck and a core group of Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette. From December 9-14, a number of these artists will be on hand at New York City’s Blue Note for what is billed as week-long 70th birthday celebration for Tyner. All of these shows will feature Tyner, Gerald Cannon on bass, Eric Kamau Gravatt on drums and tap dancer Savion Glover. Other announced guests include Ribot (12/9), Joe Lovano (12/10), Ravi Coltrane (12/11 and 12/12), Bill Frisell (12/13) and John Scofield (12/14).
