This Friday, the Georgia Theatre will host Madfest 2, a benefit in honor of the late Madelyne Underwood. The money that is raised will be directed by the Athens Rotary Foundation to a scholarship fund ‘for a deserving Clarke Central [High School] student who demonstrates dedication to community service.’ The night will open with music from the Connelly Crowe Band and the Patrick Smith Band. Then, longtime Widespread Panic producer and on-stage guest, John Keane will deliver a set with his group, Strawberry Flats, which was founded in 1985 and recently began picking up a few dates per year after a decade’s hiatus. The night will then conclude with what is billed as an All Star Jam. Panic percussionist Sunny Ortiz is one of the confirmed players for this sequence, with Keane among the musicians expected to participate.
