Stanley Jordan, Joshua Redman Join Umphrey’s

Umphreys McGees guest-heavy holiday run continued last night at Chicagos The Auditorium Theatre. Partway through the groups first set the groups longtime collaborator Joshua Redman took the stage to play saxophone on Alex’s House and Rocker (Part II), while Chicago jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan sat in on a set-closing 40’s Theme. Both musicians returned near the start of the groups second set for a segue that included Great American and Bright Lights and, during one particularly interesting jam, Jordon offered a solo segment that teased the Beatles Eleanor Rigby. Roseman, who appears on the studio version of ‘Intentions Clear,’ also spiced up the Der Bluten Kat, a Jimmy Stewart improvisational segment, the lone encore of Ringo and the first reading of the new original Made to Measure.

Made to Measure is the only track off Umphreys McGees forthcoming album Mantis that the group has played lived. The group will return to The Auditorium Theatre to celebrate New Years Eve this evening.
