Ike Willis, Ed Mann and Don Preston To Appear With Project/Object
Starting in late January, three of Frank Zappa’s collaborators will join Project/Object for a series of shows. Both Ed Mann and Ike Willis toured and recorded with Zappa for more than a decade prior to Zappa’s passing in 1988. Don Preston was an original Mothers of Invention member, who worked with Zappa through 1974. The three Zappa alumni have signed for ten dates with Project/Object, which also features Andre Cholmondeley, Dave Johnsen, Eric Svalgard and Eric Slick.
Project/Object seeks to perpetuate the music of Frank Zappa on a few levels: ‘One of Frank’s greatest skills was his incredible sixth sense in identifying something magical in each of the musicians he hired. Recognizing this – Project/Object continues its singular mission to present the music as it was recorded -but also to respect and develop the creative ‘live’ aspect that Zappa always pushed his band towards. With the support of the fans, Project/Object chooses to do this with the ‘Alumni’: the people who were there with Frank as the music was created, recorded and performed.’
The tour with Willis, Mann and Preston will open on January 29 at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, NJ and close out in Buffalo, NY at the Tralf on February 7. Other stops include an appearance at The State Theatre in Falls Church, VA on February 1 and Chicago’s Morse Theatre on February 5, with the full schedule at the Project/Object site.
