Last week, Hot Buttered Rum headlined San Franciscos famed Fillmore Auditorium. Fellow bluegrass-based jammers Blue Turtle Seduction supplied opening duties and Everyone Orchestra leader Matt Butler played percussion with the evenings headliners throughout their entire set. Hot Buttered Rum also nodded to the evenings celebratory spirit by closing its first set with a series of Talking Heads covers: Life During Wartime, Naive Melody (This Must Be The Place) and Burning Down The House.
But things really started to get festive at the start of the groups second set. After a bass solo, flutist Matt Eakle (David Grisman Quintet), fiddler Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth), percussionist Perry Sayoma Quarshie and drummer Adam Navone all joined the members of Hot Buttered rum for a Butler-led Everyone Orchestra jams based around
Every Stone We Lay. Eakle and Carbone remained on stage for the Hot Buttered Rum original Banjo Rock ‘N’ Roll. Later in the evening, Eakle and Quarshie both returned for the Nat Keefe/Zach Gil co-composition Limbs Akimbo, while Carbone helped close things out with a cover of the Beatles I’ve Got A Feeling and Summertime Gal.
Hot Buttered Rum will appear at Sellersville, PAs Sellersville Theater this Friday. Butler will also join the group for another string of dates beginning Santa Cruz, CAs Moes Alley.
