The Allman Brothers Bands Beacon residency last night with another round of special guests. After running through such classics as Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More, Hot ‘Lanta, Van Morrisons And It Stoned Me and Revival, Johnny Winter took the stage for Jimi Hendrixs Red House, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers You Don’t Love Me and Bob Dylans Highway 61 Revisited. Winter has shared the stage with the Allman Brothers Band numerous times since his days at the Fillmore West and actually recorded a version of Wasted Words with Gregg Allman, Berry Oakley and Buddy Miles. While there was never any rivalry or competition, Duane and I appreciated each others talents, Winter reflects in the April/May issue of Relix.

The top of set two began with the Eat a Peach classic Les Brers In A Minor and also included Come & Go Blues and Melissa. Los Lobos guitarists David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas then emerged for a take on the Allman Brothers Bands Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’ and the blues classic Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. The Allmans proper then brought the set to a close with Wasted Words and No One To Run With. Both Hidalgo and Rosas then returned for an encore segment that teased Walk Don’t Run before moving into One Way Out. Please click here for daily setlists from the Beacon.
