Following yesterday’s passing of Michael Jackson, a number of groups offered up musical tributes. Last night in Jim Thorpe, PA at Penn’s Peak, Yonder Mountain String Band delivered a cover of Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’‘ one of the seven top ten singles from his Thriller release. Meanwhile in Boston at the Paradise, The Slip took the stage with each of its three members wearing a lone white glove and the group performed a ‘Billie Jean’ jam in the midst of its ‘Children of December’ encore. In addition, the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, which covered Michael Jackson during its last New Year’s Eve, is sharing free MP3s of ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Thriller.’ Who knows, perhaps this will be the year that Phish covers Thriller on Halloween, as they teased in 1994.
