From 2006-2008, a variety of promoters hosted regular shows in Brooklyn, NYs McCarren Park Poolan empty, depression-era space located at the meeting point of the citys Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. A whos who of rock, indie and jam acts played McCarren during that three year stint, including Govt Mule, Umphreys McGee, the Disco Biscuits, The Slip, Feist, Apollo Sunshine, The Hold Steady, TV on the Radio, Of Montreal, MGMT and Sonic Youth, the latter of whom officially closed the pool last September. Several of those shows were part of the free JELLY Pool Parties series, which took place each Sunday afternoon.
Though the performing space is in the process of being turned back into a working pool, JELLY has relocated its Pool Parties series to the nearby Williamsburg Waterfront, which is located in East River State Park on N. 9th St. and Kent Ave. Each Sunday this summer the events promoters will host free music, as well as dodgeball, slip n’ slide and other summer acitivities. The series will kick off this Sunday, July 12 with performances by Mission of Burma, Fucked Up, Ponytail and Jemina Pearl of Be your Own Pet.
