The New York Guitar Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary this January and Ferbuary with a series of special shows at Manhattans Merkin Concert Hall. Each Thursday night an artist or ensemble will give the world premiere of a NYGF commissioned score for early classic film. On January 14, David Bromberg will perform alongside Charlie Chaplin’s The Immigrant and Marc Ribot will create music for Chaplin’s The Kid. January 21 will pair Bon Iver with Chaplin’s The Gold Rush and Steve Kimock with Buster Keaton’s Cops. On January 28, Alex de Grassi will perform against Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, before James Blackshaw interprets Fall of the House of Usher and, finally, on February 4 Chicha Libre will work with Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights and Gyan Riley will play guitar over various shorts by Harry Smith.
