Jerome John Garcia was born on August 1, 1942. To mark the occasion of his birthday, SIRIUS XM’s Grateful Dead Channel will focus on Garcia through August 9 (the 14th anniversary of his death). The channel will focus not only on music from the Grateful Dead but also such projects as Legion of Mary, Garcia/Grisman and the Jerry Garcia Band (including two complete Jerry Garcia Band live shows from 1980 and 1990). Meanwhile, Garcia’s former wife, Carolyn Mountain Girl Garcia, has put together a show that will highlight her own memories of the musician. On August 9, ‘Jerry Week’ will conclude with a recording of the vigil held for Garcia in San Franciscos Golden Gate Park four days after his death.
