Tenacious D will replace the Beastie Boys as a co-headliner of the second-annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. As previously reported, the Beastie Boys recently canceled a slew of shows after Adam MCA Yauch was diagnosed with throat cancer. As previously reported, Outside Lands will return to San Franciscos Golden Gate Park from August 28-30, featuring performances by Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Ween, The National, Dead Weather, Black Eyed Peas, Tea Leaf Green, Tom Jones and a number of other musicians. Tenacious D will close the festival.

‘There is so much build up that when we set loose, California may be shaking loose from the rest of the country,’ Jack Black said. I am pretty sure we have the best day, pound-for-pound. I am excited to see the Dead Weather, and I am always into me some Ween.
Tenacious D opened a few Barack Obama benefit shows for the Beastie Boys last year.
The Beastie Boys were scheduled to play a number of summer music festivals, including New Jerseys All Points West Music Festival and Illinois Lollapalooza. Perry Farrell quickly announced his friends the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as a replacement Lollapalooza headliner, while All Points West nabbed Jay-Z. The latter artist paid tribute to MCA by opening his set with No Sleep till Brooklyn, a classic Beastie Boys song that nods to the rappers hometown.
Meanwhile, MCA is said to be recovering. So I’m about a week and a half out of surgery now and rapidly recovering from it, he posted on his website. I haven’t taken any of the pain meds, which supposedly speeds along the healing process, or should I say, taking them slows it down. Anyway, I spent 1 night at the hospital after the surgery. The hospital was too crazy to get any rest so I headed home to relax, have home cooked food and hang out with the family.
