A number of New Orleans regulars will perform at a benefit concert for singer Marva Wright. Though known as New Orleans Queen of the Blues, the veteran singer has also made her mark on such styles as R&B, jazz and gospel. Wright recently suffered two strokes and, on August 22, New Orleans Tipitina’s Uptown will hold a benefit to help the singer pay her bills. As of press time, Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, James Andrews, Bo Dollis & The Wild Magnolias and Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington are all confirmed to make appearances at the event. In addition, Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. and the Zydeco Twisters, Jo ‘Cool’ Davis, Kirk Joseph & Backyard Groove, Tara Alexander, Kennedy Boz, The 6th Ward Gold Diggers Baby Dolls, Alfred Doucette, Les Getrex, Thomas ‘Big Man’ Glass, Ronald Jones, Henry Love, Shannon Powell, Betty Shirley, Keith Zinet and The BMW’s and MC MC Tammy Montana will appear at various points throughout the event. Numerous collaborations are expected.
