Levon Helm will celebrate Halloween with a Midnight Ramble at his Woodstock-area barn. Elvis Perkins in Dearland will open the evening, which will include a pumpkin carving contest. The winner of the best pumpkin carving will receive one Midnight Ramble ticket to the show of their choice.

Last night, Helm closed his summer tour with the Black Crowes. At the end of his set, Chris and Rich Robinson, as well as Crowes drummer Steve Gorman and keyboardist Adam MacDougall, all emerged for a take on “The Weight.” Levon Helm Band guitarist Larry Campbell also sat in with the Crowes on a section of songs including “Good Morning Captain,” “Shine Along,” “Roll Old Jeremiah”, “Good Friday”, “Wiser Time” and “So Many Times.” Campbell, who appears throughout the Crowes’ new releases Before the Frost… and …Until the Freeze, alternated from banjo to pedal steel and fiddle throughout his sit ins.
