England’s Royal Variety Performance event debuted in 1912 under the auspices of King George V and Queen Mary. Ever since then the show has served as an annual benefit for the country’s Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund. This year’s roster of participants includes Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Michael Buble and Bette Midler. Midler will bring a guest with her to the show, as Jake Shimabukuro will accompany the Divine Miss M. on ukulele for a version of the Beatles’ “In My Life.” Apparently Midler heard the song on Shimabukuro’s My Life release and has invited him to make the trip. The performance will take place on December 7 at the Blackpool Opera House.
