STS9’s New Year’s run consisted of three shows in Denver, CO. The first night of the group’s run took place at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall and featured an Axe The Cables night featuring STS9’s first entirely acoustic sets. The musicians dressed in formalwear as they stripped down to acoustic guitar, drums, mini-keyboard, bongos and an electric bass. Big Gigantic/Motet saxophonist Dominic Lalli also joined the group for “Between 6th and 7th.”

The band’s New Year’s celebration moved to the new Wells Fargo Theatre for shows on December 30 and 31. The group’s second set on December 31 started shortly before midnight with “This, US.” The members of STS9 then brought their families and friends onstage for a public countdown, before busting into “Atlas.”

The rest of the set consisted of “Rent,” “Economic Hit Man,””Hidden Hand Hidden Fist Lo Swaga” and “Inspire Strikes Back.” The musicians returned to the stage to play “Wika Chikana” and “The Unquestionable Supremacy of Nature,” as well as the second standalone encore of “Be Nice.” After the song bassist David Murphy told the crowd, “Y’all do that in 2010. Be nice.” STS9 is slated to perform another acoustic set aboard Jam Cruise this week.
