On Friday Umphrey’s McGee headlined San Diego, CA’s House of Blues. Cornmeal opened the show and, near the end of Umphrey’s McGee’s first set, onetime Frank Zappa sideman Mike Keneally emerged to play guitar on “Push the Pig.” Keneally, who has sat in with the members of Umphrey’s in the past, later returned for “Alex’s House” “Dump City” and a cover of Jeff Beck’s “You Know What I Mean.” On “Dump City” Keneally also played keyboards.

In related news, Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss and Yonder Mountain String Band’s Jeff Austin have confirmed a St. Patrick’s Day shows under their duo alias 30db. The musicians will perform at Chicago’s Schuba’s on March 17. Umphrey’s McGee will appear at Salt Lake City’s The Depot this evening.
