Bassist Eric Avery has quit Jane’s Addiction again. Avery announced his departure to fans via a Twitter message that said, “With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane’s Addiction experiment is at an end.” Avery originally left Jane’s Addiction in 1991 and sat out the band’s numerous reunion runs. To the surprise of many, Avery rejoined the band in 2008 and toured with the band through an Australian run that came to a close earlier this week. Both Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro responded to Avery’s departure via Twitter as well.

According to Reuters, Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan will replace Avery. Jane’s Addiction is said to be working on a new studio album.
