The next studio recording from the Punch Brothers is set for a June 15 release on Nonesuch. Antifogmatic was produced by Jon Brion (Brad Mehldau, Of Montreal, Elliott Smith, Kanye West) and is the second album from the band, which features Nickel Creek alum Chris Thile on mandolin and vocals along with Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle). A deluxe edition of Antifogmatic also will be available which comes with a four song instrumental EP, All of This Is True and a seven song DVD, Live from the Lower East Side: It’s p-Bingo Night!, drawn from a residency at New York City’s The Living Room. As for the disc’s title, Thile explains, “Antifogmatic is an old term for a bracing beverage, generally rum or whiskey, that a person would have before going out to work in rough weather to stave off any ill effects. This batch of tunes could be used in much the same way, and includes some characters who would probably benefit mightily, if temporarily, from a good antifogmatic.”

The group kicks off a brief West Coast tour on Friday in Santa Monica, CA at Santa Monica College.
