Widespread Panic will release its next studio album, Dirty Side Down, on May 25. In advance of the album’s release, we are digging into our own archives to offer some of our favorite interviews with the band. Our first archival offering is a April/May 2002 Relix cover story written by noted critic John Swenson.

Originally published shortly after the release of 2001’s Don’t Tell the Band, the in-depth feature boasts interviews with all six members of the band’s classic lineup—including guitarist Michael Houser, who passed away less than six months later from cancer. The article also reveals how JoJo Hermann and Sunny Ortiz came to the band, the impact of HORDE and the formation in the 1980s.

The complete article is available online for the first time on Relix.com.
