Levon Helm will perform at WFUV Radio’s Annual Gala 2010. The longtime Band drummer will receive the WFUV Sound & Vision Award and play a set with his Ramble on the Road band. Baseball Hall of Fame member and veteran broadcaster Ernie Harwell will receive the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting, while Bob Schieffer, the seven-time Emmy Award-winning television journalist, will receive the Charles Osgood Lifetime Achievement Award in Broadcast Journalism. New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will attend and offer comments.

According to the radio station, “the fundraising gala in support of New York’s “Rock and Roots” public radio station, licensed to Fordham University, will be held at Gotham Hall in Manhattan near Herald Square. An audience of more than 400 donors will see Mr. Helm, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and his band perform a mini-concert, including songs from his career as a founding member of The Band and from his 2009 Grammy-winning album, Electric Dirt.”

Musicians Suzanne Vega, Willie Nile, James Maddock, Richard Julian, Cory Chisel, Erin McKeown, The Kennedys, Willie Nile, Lucy Kaplansky, Amy Correia and others will attend the event.

WFUV Radio’s Annual Gala 2010 will be held at New York’s Gotham Hall on May 5 at 6:00 PM ET, followed at 7:30 PM by “dinner, entertainment, and a live auction of sports, travel and other valuable items.” Individual tickets are $1,000 and $2,500; tables are $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 and $75,000.
