Furthur rehearsal earlier in the week

The 2010 Furthur Festival kicked into gear on Friday night with a late night set featuring the band’s core members and friends. The set opened with a verse from “Viola Lee Blues” that saw Furthur members Phil Lesh (bass), Jeff Chimenti (keys) and Joe Russo (drums) joined by Larry Campbell and Jackie Greene on guitars. This quintet then performed “New Speedway Boogie” before Teresa Williams added vocals to “Peggy-O” and “Tennessee Jed,” while her husband Campbell, moved over to fiddle. Then Williams stepped off while Bob Weir joined in for the second verse of “Viola Lee,” as Jackie Greene picked up a bass for the song. RatDog guitarist Mark Karan then emerged to lend a hand with “Sugaree.” After this tune the Hot Tuna duo of Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady closed out the set with Weir, Russo and Jackie Greene (who slid behind the keyboard) for a run from “Death Don’t Have No Mercy,” into “I Know You Rider” and then the concluding verse of “Viola Lee Blues.”
