The first full day of the Summer Camp Festival kicked off on Friday. moe.’s 5 PM afternoon set saw the group’s Rob Derhak debut a new original tune, “Day Dreaming.” A bit later the group invite Ivan Neville to join in on keys during “Happy Hour Hero.” moe. guitarists Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey later returned for Gov’t Mule’s stage-closing set, with Garvey sitting in for “Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys” and Schnier guesting on the Grateful Dead’s “Loser.” The Mule also brought out Danny Barnes and Jeff Austin on banjo and mandolin for “Wild Horses,” before closing out their set with a muscular run from “Mule” into “Whole Lotta Love” and back into “Mule.” Later on, moe. performed a single set in the barn that opened with “George” and included versions of “Cissy Strut,” “Johnny Lineup” and a take on “Brent Black “ that incorporated “Interstellar Overdrive.”
