Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic co-headlined Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre this past Saturday, July 3. Dubbed “Red Rocks and Blue,” the Independence Day event featured a special opening set by the Wailers, as well as club shows by both Galactic and Umphrey’s McGee. The Red Rocks weekend centerpiece took place on the 5th anniversary of Umphrey’s McGee’s first Red Rocks show as part of the Big Summer Classic festival.

During Umphrey’s McGee’s encore, the members of Galactic emerged for a first-time mash-up of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic.” Umphrey’s McGee has become known for its mash-ups since a particularly memorial Halloween show at San Francisco’s Warfield in 2008. Galactic has performed a few full band collaborations with other groups this year, including Tea Leaf Green and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.

Umphrey’s McGee will perform in Sylvania, OH this Wednesday, while Galactic will appear at Portland, OR’s Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival today.
