On Sunday, Gov’t Mule took the stage at Riverfront Park in Cocoa, FL for an extended single set show in the rain which served as a benefit for Earth Awareness. August 1 is Jerry Garcia’s birthday, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the group. Mid-way through the set the band performed “Patchwork Quilt,” Warren Haynes’ composition which references Garcia’s death on August 9, 1995.Then the group brought out Jackie Greene for a number of Garcia’s signature songs: “Sugaree,” “Loser,” “Terrapin Station” and “Dark Star.” A bit later they offered a fitting “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” and later encored with a similarly apt “Wish You Were Here.”

On Tuesday, the Mule and Greene will appear in Myrtle Beach, SC at the House of Blues.
