Gov’t Mule Celebrates Jerry Garcia

On Sunday, Gov’t Mule took the stage at Riverfront Park in Cocoa, FL for an extended single set show in the rain which served as a benefit for Earth Awareness. August 1 is Jerry Garcia’s birthday, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the group. Mid-way through the set the band performed “Patchwork Quilt,” Warren Haynes’ composition which references Garcia’s death on August 9, 1995.Then the group brought out Jackie Greene for a number of Garcia’s signature songs: “Sugaree,” “Loser,” “Terrapin Station” and “Dark Star.” A bit later they offered a fitting “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” and later encored with a similarly apt “Wish You Were Here.”

On Tuesday, the Mule and Greene will appear in Myrtle Beach, SC at the House of Blues.

I’ll be interested to hear the Muletracks discs as much of the Dead stuff sounded a bit more than loose. Jorgen was fishing for notes from time to time. There was also a “Drum Jam with all the members of The Mule —-> Space” section, which I’m sure left some attendees scratching their collective head. So thankful the rain eventually stopped.

The show was great, Even standing out in the poring rain. The Other One Jam was sick along with the St.Stephen and Terrapin Jam as well.
Also when Jerry Garcia’s Birthday was mentioned a loud nice crack of Thunder roared over as if he was saying hi. :)
Thanks for such a great time.

Warren does an incredible job of covering Dead tunes.
It is just incredible what he can do.
Unfortunately I prefer it when Warren plays Allman and Dead tunes more than Mule tunes.
