Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant showcased his new Band of Joy ensemble at an extremely intimate concert held at New York’s 500-person Bowery Ballroom last night. In addition to Plant on vocals, harmonica and stray percussion, the band featured a number of artists associated with the Americana genre: vocalist Patty Griffin, guitarist/vocalist Buddy Miller,multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Daryl Scott, bassist/vocalist Byron House and drummer vocalist Marco Giovino. The project’s moniker is a nod to Plant’s pre-Zeppelin project Band of Joy.

Plant led the group through most of the evening’s set, which mixed Zeppelin standards like “Misty Mountain Hop” “Houses of the Holy,” “Gallows Pole” and “Rock and Roll” with songs from his work with Alison Krauss and his new album, Band of Joy. Griffin, Miller and Scott also took turns singing lead for the band at various points throughout the night and all four musicians showcased their voices during a show-closing version of “And We Bid You Goodnight.”
