The Stanton Moore Trio featuring Anders Osborne opened for Levon Helm this past Saturday. The show took place in Helm’s Woodstock, NY-area barn as part of the Midnight Ramble series. Moore recorded his most recent album, Groove Alchemy, in the barn and sat in with Helm’s band at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival this past spring. With Ramble Mainstays Larry Campbell, Amy Helm and Theresa Williams out of town, Helm filled his band with some guest musicians, including mandolin player Sam Bush and singer/songwriter Catherine Russell. Bush first befriended Helm at a Little Feat tribute when the two musicians shared a trailer. More recently Bush joined Helm in Nashville for a Ramble on the Road and at Hunter, NY’s Mountain Jam this past spring.

Osborne and Moore’s trio ended their short set by inviting out Helm trumpeter Steve Bernstein and saxophonist Erik Lawerence for a song. Likewise, during Helm’s show Moore emerged for “All on a Mardi Gras Day” and Osborne sang on “The Weight.”
