Evil Urges

My Morning Jacket closed its five-show run at New York’s Terminal 5 Saturday night. The band ran through its most recent studio album, Evil Urges, in its entirety and later returned for a nine-song encore. Like the previous four nights of the band’s run, MMJ’s encore mixed unreleased original songs with a range of covers that included: The Velvet Underground’s “Oh! Sweet Nuthin,” Sly Stone’s “Hot Fun In The Summertime, Al Johnson’s “Carnival Time” and Curtis Mayfield’s “Move On Up.”

In addition, My Morning Jacket previewed a few recently debuted songs that may make their way onto the band’s forthcoming studio album such as “Circuital” and “Friends Again.” Likewise, MMJ preformed the Evil Urges outtake “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” a song the band plans to re-record for its next studio album. “Carried Away” off guitarist Carl Broemel’s new solo album All Birds Say and the live favorite “Tonite I Want To Celebrate With You” rounded out the Jacket’s encore.

After leaving the stage for a second time, My Morning Jacket returned to deliver a high energy take on the It Still Moves single “One Big Holiday.” It was the only song My Morning Jacket repeated throughout its 100-song marathon.
