My Morning Jacket played an increasingly rare hometown performance at Louisville, KY’s KFC Yum! Center last night. Fellow hometown heroes Wax Fang and The Louisville Youth Symphony Orchestra opened the night. Early on during MMJ’s set, members of the Youth Orchestra joined the group onstage for “Wordless Chorus,” “Evil Urges,” “Gideon” and “The Way That He Sings.” The LYSO returned a few songs later for “Thank You Too!” as well as at the end of the night for “Bermuda Highway,” “Librarian” and the recently revived cover of “Move on Up.”

My Morning Jacket spruced up its setlist with some of the rarer songs it reworked for its five night run at New York’s Terminal 5, including “Heartbreakin Man” and “Evelyn Is Not Real.” Perhaps as a spoof on the venue’s corporate sponsor KFC, the members of My Morning Jacket dressed as colonels and brought out some extra hands in chicken costumes. The band also celebrated the special occasion by dropping balloons on the audience.

Members of Wax Fang are currently assisting with the new My Morning Jacket album. MMJ will perform at New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience this weekend.
