Music journalist Alan Paul has written a book, Big In China that will be released by Harper Collins on March 1. Big In China is a memoir that shares his experiences raising three American kids in Beijing. Much of the work also focuses on Woodie Alan, a blues band that he co-founded with Chinese-born Woodie Wu, two other Chinese members and one additional American. Paul tells Jambands.com, “Though the three Chinese were all excellent musicians well versed in an array of styles, I had to teach them the art of the jam. Our bi-cultural collaborations led us to write music in both English and Chinese, tour throughout China, be named “Best Band in Beijing” and record a CD hailed by Billy Gibbons, Charlie Musselwhite, Col. Bruce Hampton and others.”
